Gegenbauer vs. Windhorst at Hertha BSC: “It set the club on fire” – Sport

After his resignation as president of the Bundesliga soccer club Hertha BSC, Werner Gegenbauer dealt again against investor Lars Windhorst.

“In the past few weeks, in the middle of the relegation battle, he has set the club on fire. Windhorst is responsible for a split that has unsettled the club and all departments,” said Gegenbauer daily mirror-Interview: “It will be the task of my successor to reverse this split.”

When asked whether he was resigning because of Windhorst, who had recently made Gegenbauer’s resignation a condition for further funds, the 71-year-old replied: “Definitely no! I’m convinced that after all the arguments, now is the right time for one Fresh start, independent of people.” After staying up in the relegation, Gegenbauer announced that he would be resigning as club president.

Windhorst, who spent 375 million euros for 64.4 percent of the shares in the outsourced professional department, had accused the presidency of misinvesting his funds. “A sporting effect cannot be seen from the inflow of funds,” admitted Gegenbauer: “That is our responsibility, and of course he has the right to articulate his disappointment. You can argue about the form and content.”
