Gandia hosts an international junior badminton tournament this weekend

This weekend the “Spanish Junior International U19 Gandia” badminton tournament will be held in the municipal pavilion of the Gandia sports center, a competition that is included in the tests of the circuit of the European Badminton Federation and the World Badminton Federation, since which is cataloged as a Junior International Series and is scored for the European and World Cup in the category.

The best junior badminton players in the world will participate, from countries such as Spain, Portugal, Norway, Austria, Slovenia, Belgium, and even Peru and India. There will be two modalities: individual (male and female) and pairs (female, male and mixed). Apart from the more than 100 players, they will be accompanied by technicians and relatives who will settle in the city.

The organization of the event is of the Badminton Federation of the Valencian Community and the Spanish Badminton Federation, together with the Club de Badminton Atlético València. “We are very happy that both federations have brought this event to an international level and with a lot of repercussion in Gandia”, said Lydia Morant, Councilor for Sports.

On the other hand, Ferran Feliu, president of the Valencian federation, explained that despite not having specific facilities for the practice of sport in Gandia, “an international tournament seemed like a very successful way of presenting badminton in the city”.

The competition, which will have three tracks in the municipal pavilion, can be followed live through of the YouTube channel of the Badminton Federation of the Valencian Community.

Schedules:

– Friday 27 at 9:30 a.m.: 1/64 final of the pairs modality and 1/32 of the individual final.
– Saturday 28 at 10:00 a.m.: 1/32 finals in pairs, all 1/16 finals and quarter-finals.
-Sunday 29 at 9:00 a.m.: semifinals and finals.
