Gakpo: ‘Was the least I could do, just not my real signature’

Cody Gakpo has won the Johan Cruijff Scale and the KNVB Cup with PSV this season, but has definitively lost sight of the national title. He did that after his perhaps last home game on behalf of PSV, although afterwards he commented on a playful action by the Eindhoven fans.

PSV won itself 3-2 against NEC, but that was worth nothing after Ajax’s victory over sc Heerenveen (5-0). “Not that we lost on the game image. Everyone knows how it went”, he refers to the controversial moments during PSV-Ajax and Feyenoord-PSV in conversation with NOS. “Then it is extra sour if you no longer play for the championship.”

Another game against PEC Zwolle will follow on Sunday, after which the great speculation about Gakpo’s future can begin. The PSV captain could make a top transfer to Arsenal, although the PSV fans still wanted to prevent this: they took a life-size contract with them and Gakpo made his ‘scribble’. “Yeah, I secretly read it. But that wasn’t my real signature… But of course, a nice gesture and they worked hard to make it. So that was the least I could do.”
