From lobster to corned beef: ex-tennis player Boris Becker disgusted by food in prison | Tennis

TennisFormer tennis player Boris Becker was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison at the end of April, half of which he must serve. The former tennis star is said to have hidden around three million pounds after he was declared bankrupt. And his first week in London prison has not gone too well for the German.

Why is Becker in jail? Watch it in this video:

In 2017, Boris Becker was unable to repay a loan of more than three million pounds (3.5 million euros) to a private bank and an investor and was therefore declared bankrupt. However, the trustee appointed to help pay off his debts was skillfully tricked. At least one judge before a London court found him guilty of four of the 24 alleged offenses against British bankruptcy law.

Stinky cell and terrible food

And now Becker has been in London prison for a week. And that’s not really easy. He has already complained about the stench in his cell and he is also annoyed by the constant noise around him. Becker was also surprised about the hygiene and the limited living space in his cell. But what bothers him most is the quality of the food.

On Becker’s first night in jail there was ‘corned beef’ on the menu, which was not immediately liked by the German. Logical even if you are used to eating filet pur and lobster every day. And the portions are also “ridiculously small”, according to Becker. Becker also has to make do with a budget of just ten pounds a week. He uses the money to buy cookies, bananas and chocolate in the prison cafeteria in order to eat something tasty.

Soon more luxury?

But whether Becker will have to stay in his tiny six-square-metre cell for long remains to be seen. According to prison sources, he would soon be allowed to move to a larger and quieter cell that he would also not have to share with other inmates. But until then, the German will have to learn to live with his new living conditions. His wife Lilian de Carvalho Monteiro did not abandon her husband and already came to visit him.
