Football: Versailles promoted to National

A Coupe de France semi-final against Nice and a rise in National, its stated objective. Versailles had a perfect season. Three days from the end, the Yvelines team ensured its rise this Saturday by winning in Saint-Malo (2-0).

It was the dean of the team, Mayki Gnahoré (37) who proved decisive. The midfielder passed by Paris FC, Villemomble and Ivry first opened the scoring on a corner from Melvyn Vieira (1-0, 31st). His center is then taken over by Waly Diouf (2-0, 39th). If Saint-Malo reduced the score in additional time by Tamba (2-1, 90th + 1) and the end of the match was a little tense, Versailles held its victory well.

Meanwhile, Chartres, Jean-Pierre Papin’s team, exploded (3-0) at the Caen reserve. With a twelve-point lead, Versailles can no longer be reached and will therefore play next season for the first time in its history in National alongside clubs such as Red Star, Châteauroux or Nancy (relegated from L2), after experiencing the D3 in the 80s.

Taken over by the City real estate group as a shareholder, Versailles has taken on another dimension financially with a budget of 2 million euros. But Youcef Chibhi’s team have assumed their new status. With the best defense (only 14 goals conceded), the second attack and only one defeat, his statistics prove it. Versailles also knew how to carry out its fabulous course in the championship without leaving feathers there in the championship. The main project for the leaders will be to find a solution for the Montbauron stadium (no lighting) or another approved stadium.
