Fernanda and Rafaela Munar They not only share a passion for badminton, they are also united by a dream: to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, and for this they both had to leave Peru to undergo intense training in Europe, where they meet the best.
The Peruvian twins (16) started playing since they were 6 and they have not stopped winning gold and silver medals in numerous championships played in Finland, Canada, Slovenia, Germany, Belgium, the United States, Cyprus, Brazil, among other countries, as well as in numerous tournaments at the national level.
Less than a month ago they made news again because they dazzled at the III South American Youth Games Rosario 2022, since of the eight medals that national badminton won in that contest, five belong to them in singles and doubles.

Last year the two faced each other for first and second place in the Pan American Junior Badminton in Acapulco (Mexico) in the sub17 category. “Facing Fernanda in a final is not easy at all because nobody likes to compete against her sister, but on the pitch you forget about that because she is just another rival and you have to win”, Raphael assures.
The badminton players train in Ibiza (Spain) and agree that they miss Peru too much. Taking this step was hard for them, but they say it is part of the effort they must make if they want to fulfill their dream of qualifying for the next Olympic Games.
“We miss Peru a lot because our roots are there, family, friends, food, but we are clear that it is part of the sacrifice to continue growing. We prepare ourselves for all the events that come, national and international, and nothing intimidates us; at the Rosario 2022 Youth Games we showed that national badminton is at the top”, Fernando said.

Last year, Rafaela and Fernanda were crowned women’s doubles champions and finalists in singles (they faced each other), in the under-17 category of the 2021 Spanish Badminton Open. In doubles they beat the Spanish María Jiménez and Paula Llave and in singles Rafaela surpassed Fernanda.
The sports sisters, who enjoy the moral and financial support of their parents, have been training full-time since this year in Spain and competing on European circuits. Previously they did it at the Lawn Tennis Club of the Exhibition in charge of the Indonesian coaches Anggy Sepdianto and Faizal Rahman.
“I am very grateful to my family because they were always by our side and we want to continue to improve ourselves to reach the Olympic Games and win a medal for Peru, that is our dream to continue training and competing. It’s not easy, you have to make a lot of sacrifice, put aside a lot of things to achieve your goals.” Raphael states.

In her turn, Fernanda indicated that “we have made a great team in Rosario and we have played as equals against the Brazilians, every point, every set, we did it thinking of all the people who support us. I think we have to keep preparing, traveling, competing because it’s the only way to meet our goals.”
The sisters never stop, today they are connected more than ever by love for the discipline of the pen with which they seek to reach the top of Olympus, always encouraged by their parents Alberto and Karina.

When they were little, they were 5 years old, their mother told them Fernanda and Rafaela to choose a sport to stop being stuck in the computer doing nothing. Fernanda chose table tennis and Rafaela badminton.
Fernanda changed table tennis for badminton after she went to see her sister in training. She liked him more because of the dexterity and speed that she imbued in the game.
