Feldirch Cardinals celebrate first win of the season

The Feldkirch Cardinals were able to record their first win of the current Baseball Bundesliga season on Saturday. In the sixth edition of the derbie against the Indians, it worked with the first success.

The Feldkirch Cardinals met the Dornbirn Indians in the Ländle Derby for the fifth and sixth time this season. The Indians have all won the four season duels so far. In the fifth meeting, Graeham Luttor’s team continued this series with an 11:0 victory – despite an appealing pitching performance by Cardinal Moritz Wiedemschek. But his opponent national player Ryan Rupp once again presented himself strongly. The Indians went into the fifth period with a narrow 1-0 lead. When Ian Breitenfelder took over for the Cardinals at the Mound, the Indians were able to set strong accents on the offensive. The Dornbirn Indians finally prevailed 7-0 in the seventh guild according to the Mercy Rule.

In the second game of the day, Jayson Wilbur delivered a strong game for the Cardinals and this time also received strong defensive support. In a pitching-dominated game, neither team could write until the seventh inning. Once there, the Indians scored the first run, but the Cardinals promptly had the right answer ready. In the eighth period, the ailing Lukas Bickel came into play as a pinch hitter. The Cardinal, who was plagued by a torn muscle fiber, then landed the game-winning base hit. Jayson Wilbur eventually closed the game in the final inning to give the Cardinals their first win of the season.
