Eintracht Frankfurt President Peter Fischer, annoyed by the behavior of Mayor Peter Feldmann at the victory celebration after winning the Europa League, refused to be entered in the city’s Golden Book. “I didn’t sign the Golden Book on site either, that was my small, silent protest,” said Fischer in an interview with SPORT BILD: “I didn’t think it was right for me because I wasn’t satisfied with how the occasion was handled handles.”
The 66-year-old club boss was upset because the SPD politician, who was highly controversial in the city because of his missteps, had taken the trophy away from Eintracht captain Sebastian Rode at the reception in the town hall last Thursday. In addition, the assistant coaches were initially not allowed on the balcony of the town hall to present themselves to the cheering fans on the Römer.
Fischer also admitted that he had not drunk from the Europa League trophy he had won. “It was honestly just symbolic drinking,” he said. “Everyone told me it didn’t taste good anyway, it would have a metallic taste. But I drank a lot of energy from it.”
After winning the silver trophy in the final against Glasgow Rangers, Fischer announced that he would “drink out of this pot tonight”.
