After a long season, nothing was at stake in AA Gent’s 60th game. The European ticket was already in the pocket with the cup victory. So Hein Vanhaezebrouck awarded 20-year-old Louis Fortin a first place under the bar.
However, the debutant had to turn around after fifteen minutes. Fortin was not much to blame: Gholizadeh slipped through the defense, cut himself free and put in neatly.
AA Gent, which had only lost once in the Europe Play-offs, was to end the season in beauty and went to the front. Tarik Tissoudali elicited a penalty, but the Ebony Shoe aimed centrally at Koffi’s feet.
Not much later, Koffi again made a sublime save. Charleroi was unable to resist the Ghent pressure: Ngadeu scored the equalizer at the far post.
After the break, Vanhaezebrouck pulled Fortin to the side to give another twenty-something, Celestin De Schrevel, a chance in goal. The youngster seemed to keep his nets clean, but in the final minute he made a mistake. He came too far with a cross, which meant that Heymans could still give Charleroi the victory.
