Celta de Vigo removes Santi Mina, sentenced to four years in prison for sexual abuse

The court presided over by Magistrate Társila Martínez acquitted Mina, who is currently playing for Celta de Vigo, for the crime of sexual assault, for which the prosecutor requested a sentence of eight years in prison, and the private prosecution, nine and a half years. The conviction is ultimately for sexual abuse and also involves a 500-meter restraining order from the victim for twelve years and the payment of 50,000 euros in compensation.

The events for which Mina was reported happened when the footballer was playing in Valencia and was on holiday in Mojácar with his friend Goldar, who is currently playing in Ibiza. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the striker entered the caravan parked next to a nightclub and his friend had gone with a girl to have sex. Although the girl made it clear that she only wanted to be with Goldar, Mina ignored her words and ended up abusing her. The tax report states that the victim suffered injuries to his vagina, right arm and left leg as a result of all this.

Contract until 2024

Celta, a club with which Santi Mina, 26, has a contract in force until June 30, 2024, did not take even an hour to communicate his position once he learned of the sentence. “The club has decided to open a disciplinary case against player Santi Mina for clarifying his work responsibilities in view of this resolution. For this reason, and as a precaution, it has been decided to temporarily remove the player from training. of the first team, without prejudice to the fact that it continues to carry out the activities indicated by the club “.

Mina is Celta’s second top scorer in the current league (with seven goals) and is one of the highest paid players in the squad. Trained in the quarry of the Galician club, he left for Valencia in 2015, when he was only 20 years old. Four years later, Celta recovered him as part of the transfer of Maxi Gómez to the xe team. He has played 269 games in the First Division, 146 of which in Celta. He has scored a total of 64 goals, with two peaks of 12 per season in 2018 and 2021.
