Catalonia and Aragon consider presenting independent candidacies for the Winter Games

The Generalitat of Catalonia and the Government of Aragon have suggested this Sunday that they do not rule out discarding the joint candidacy for the Winter Games from 2030 and submit independent proposalsafter verifying the Lack of agreement in the design of the common project.

In statements to RAC1, the Catalan minister of the Presidency, Laura Vilagràexplained that the Generalitat’s proposal continues to be a “collaborative application” with Aragon, because “it has advantages”, but If the Aragonese government continues to put “so many problems” Catalonia could still “present a candidacy”.

“We have earned the place to be able to choose. No one has the right to spoil it“, highlighted Vilagrà, who has avoided “advancing events” because beforehand he wants run out of options to present a joint candidacy with Aragón.

According to Vilagrà, Catalonia “deserves to be able to present the Olympic candidacy” and has always “proposed collaboration with other territories”, for which he still hopes that “everyone is responsible and works positively”.

In the same way, the government of Javier Lamban He has warned that he would plant his own candidacy if the Government of Catalonia does not agree to develop a project “on equal terms” between the two autonomous communities in terms of the sharing and distribution of evidence.

This has been assured to Efe by official sources of the Aragonese Executive, which have reiterated their rejection of the new proposal for sharing evidence drawn up by the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE) which provides for the development of three events in Aragon and nine in Catalonia, including the two considered “queens” in the white Olympics, alpine skiing and ice hockey.

This rejection was expressed this Saturday to the media by the Aragonese Minister of Education and Sports, Felipe Faci, who last Friday was unofficially informed of the proposal through a telephone call made by the president of the Spanish Olympic body, Alejandro Blanco .
