Carolina Marín teaches a badminton class to 120 students in Madrid

Carolina Maríntriple world champion in badminton, gave a training session this Thursday to 120 students from the Carlos III and Gómez Moreno institutesboth in the San Blas-Canillejas district, as part of the third edition of the ‘Girls, sport makes us powerful!’ initiative.

The program, carried out in collaboration between the Madrid City Council and the company Iberdrola, seeks to encourage sports in girls between the ages of 12 and 24.

During the experience, aimed at students in the 1st and 3rd years of ESO (12 and 15 years old respectively), the young people have been able to get to know in depth the practice of which the player is a world exponent, in a day that Marín has said feel proud for contributing her “grain of sand so that young people get more and more hooked on sport”.

The Delegate Councilor for Sport of the Madrid City Council, Sophia Miranda (Cs), has celebrated that the ‘Poderosas’ program has become “a benchmark in our city to encourage sports in girls and adolescents”, turning sports practice “into a means to promote personal development regardless of barriers , the prejudices and the situations of each one”.

“It is very necessary that the girls of Madrid can identify with great sportswomen as is the case of Carolina”explained the councilor, who attended the meeting, as they represent “the best image of sport in our city and our country and are an example for the thousands of young athletes who are now starting out”.

For this reason, he added, “they are the example that sport makes us powerful.”

At the same time, Miranda has warned that girls between the ages of 12 and 25 end up abandoning sports “to a much greater extent than boys”, data that, he said, is explained by going to the statistics of sports competitions municipal.

“To reverse these data, the City Council is firmly committed to transmitting the values ​​of sport to the smallest girls” with initiatives like these, she added.
