Blue Jays sweep Angels

The Toronto Blue Jays completed their four-game sweep against the Angels by winning 11-10 on Sunday in Los Angeles.

This is the very first time manager Charlie Montoyo’s squad have won all of their series encounters in 2022.

In the day’s game, the Jays trailed by three runs after six innings. Canada’s only Major League Baseball team, however, benefited from the generosity of pitcher Ryan Tepera to level the score at the top of seventh.

Indeed, the gunner who wore the colors of the Blue Jays from 2015 to 2019 allowed his rivals to register two of their three points by giving bases on balls. The Angels nevertheless regained the lead on their next turn at bat, thanks to a long ball from Max Stassi.

The Jays had not said their last word, however, regaining control in the eighth period. By a solo circuit, Bo Bichette brought everyone back to square one, and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. put his people forward by pushing Alejandro Kirk to home plate with a double.

Sent into the fray for the final inning, pitcher David Phelps recorded the first save of his campaign. The victory went to Adam Cimber’s record (6-2), while José Quijada (0-1) suffered the setback.

In addition, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was not to participate in this meeting due to pain in his left wrist. Montoyo, however, inserted him into his line-up in place of Cavan Biggio in the eighth. He got a free pass in his only present at the plate.

Thanks to the generosity

In St. Petersburg, the Tampa Bay Rays took advantage of the largesse of the New York Yankees pitchers to win 4-2.

Wander Franco notably scored the winning run when Harold Ramirez was the fourth straight batter to walk. The next batter, Mike Zunino, was hit by a shot from Ron Marinaccio, so the Florida club added two runs to the board without hitting a single ball.

Luis Severino (3-1) had homers for Ji-Man Choi and Taylor Walls previously, suffering his first setback this season. He gave up four runs, two safe hits and two free passes in six-and-a-third innings. Shane McClanahan (5-2) earned the win.

Gleyber Torres and Aaron Judge homered in the loss.
