Basketball coach Kerr furious after Texas massacre: ‘When are we going to do something?!’

The theme of armed violence touches the basketball coach personally. In 1984, Kerr’s father was kidnapped and shot dead in Lebanon. Malcolm H. Kerr was a professor specializing in the Arab world. His murder was claimed by a jihadist organization.

Kerr addresses senators

Gun ownership legislation has long been a hot topic in the United States. “We now have 50 senators who simply refuse to vote on a bill passed by the House of Representatives two years ago,” Kerr said in despair.

This law makes a background check mandatory when purchasing a firearm. “The only reason the senators don’t want to vote is because they want to keep their power,” Kerr said. “Because 90 percent of all Americans want this law.”

He then addressed those senators directly. “I ask you, Mitch McConnell (leader of the Republicans in the Senate) and all those others who refuse to do anything about the shootings, is your desire for power more important than the lives of those schoolchildren, supermarket customers and churchgoers? it’s over now.”
