Barça: Pique against the Super League

Gerard Pique (35 years old, 40 games and 3 goals in all competitions this season) is not the type to keep his tongue in his pocket. Asked about the Super League, defended by its president at FC Barcelona, Joan Laporta, but also by Real Madrid and Juventus, the central defender showed his opposition.

“It was very political. In Spain the media is controlled by certain people who support the Super League. It’s not seen like in the UK. different. Today it’s a bit blocked and I don’t think it will go very far”, underlined the Blaugrana in an interview for The Overlap.

“In my opinion, it destroys football. The big teams will benefit from it but it will destroy clubs like Sevilla, Valencia… It will also be the case for English clubs which have a lot of fans. They will not disappear in a day but after five, ten years, because they won’t have any more income. Everyone will be focused on the Super League. The teams that aren’t at the top won’t play it. It kills football a bit. I can understand the point of view of these big clubs because some of them, together with their owners, want the value of the club to continue to increase,” added the 2010 world champion.
