Barça and Real Madrid do not fail and eighth place tightens

MADRID, 1 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Barça beat Hereda San Pablo Burgos (84-69) this Sunday on matchday 31 of the Endesa League to defend its solid lead, against Real Madrid’s victory over Joventut (99-89), while UCAM Murcia returned to the playoff zone.

The culé team suffered from the beginning in a Palau dressed in a gala, at its fiftieth anniversary party. The first part was a continuation of the depression in Munich, where on Friday they conceded 2-2 in the Euroleague playoff against Bayern.

After the break, a 30-15 score in the third quarter woke up the ‘Saras’ men, who were in charge of the match until the end, despite the resistance of Burgos, who remained in the relegation zone. Abrines (15 points) dynamited the match for a Barça that on Tuesday has the fifth game for a ticket to the European ‘Final Four’.

The leader put a 24-7 at the top of the table, by Madrid’s 22-9. Pablo Laso’s team secured second place, now with Valencia Basket one win away, leaving behind a ‘Penya’ team surpassed by the lethal trio formed by Yabusele (17 points and a PIR of 23), Poirier (14 and 22) and Hanga (20 and 21).

Tomic and Ribas pulled their own, but those from Badalona see the fight tighten to be top of the series, fourth but tied on 20 wins with Lenovo Tenerife. At the close of the ‘Top 8’ the table is also tight, with UCAM that got into the ‘playoffs’ zone, although tied at 16 with Gran Canaria and Bilbao. The Murcian team beat Monbus Obradoiro (98-80), trailing the Galicians from 33-17 in the second quarter. Jordan Davis (15 points and a PIR of 19) was the best of Sito Alonso’s men.

Meanwhile, Surne Bilbao Basket nurtured the dream of being at the crossroads for the title, with a heart-stopping victory, with a basket to remember by Rafa Luz, on the pitch of Casademont Zaragoza (80-82). In addition, Gran Canaria beat Río Breogán (84-86) in another very close game, with another winning basket by Erik Quintela with one second to go.
