“There is tremendous appreciation from Team Berlin. We tried to get Angie Kerber from the start. We had a two-year contract that expired last year. But we signaled early on: ‘Hey Angie, you’re important to us.’ That’s clear,” added Barbara Rittner in conversation with Eurosport presenter Birgit Nössing.

Rittner: Wildcard for Kerber is ready
“A wildcard will be kept ready” until the start of the event, should Kerber decide to compete in the lawn event that begins on June 11th.
“She’s not just in my heart, but in all tennis hearts in Germany. It’s clear that one of the biggest tennis tournaments in Germany wants Angie to be there,” said Rittner. “If that wasn’t made clear enough, then I’m sorry.”
