Baník looked for a new coach. He has experience with Sparta

Baník would like to become more involved in the battle for the title in the next period. That’s why, after this controversial season, he decided to change the implementation team and thirty-nine-year-old Ondřej Smetana will no longer continue as the head coach in the Ostrava club.

In recent days, information has leaked about Baník Ostrava’s interest in connecting the future with Pavel Vrba, the current coach of Sparta Prague. The former coach of the Czech national team or the Pilsen Victoria has been led by Baník in the past. According to well-informed sources, however, the negotiations failed on the financial ideas of the current head of the Letna Club bench.

Baník therefore looked for another man who also has experience as a coach for the national team. Pavel Hapal last led the Slovak national football team, where he finished in October 2020. During his previous coaching career, he worked briefly in Sparta, which he coached in 13 matches, in Senica, Žilina, which he led to the Slovak title, or Zaglebia Lubin in Poland.

As a player, he has experience from the Sigma in Olomouc, which raised them for big football, the German Bayer Leverkusen, the Spanish Tenerife and the Prague Sparta and České Budějovice.
