Sailer on the fight for promotion to the second division: “One will stumble”

Marco Sailer is carried on hands during the 2015 ascent

End of the audio contribution

Darmstadt 98 is fighting for promotion to the Bundesliga on Sunday (3:30 p.m.). Fourth-placed in the 2nd division only has an outsider chance and must hope that second-placed Werder Bremen and third-placed Hamburger SV will stumble. In order to get into the relegation, the Hessians need more points than the HSV or Bremen.

These are the crucial games

SV Darmstadt – SC Paderborn
Werder Bremen – Jahn Regensburg
Hansa Rostock – Hamburger SV

This is what the table looks like

2. Bremen 60 points, goal difference +20
3. Hamburger SV 57 points, goal difference +31
4. Darmstadt 57 points, goal difference +22

Losing the lilies…

…then they no longer have a chance of promotion. They will hardly be caught by St. Pauli (fifth) because the lilies are three points ahead and have a clearly better goal difference. But more than fourth place is definitely not possible.

Will the Lilies draw…

… they have to hope for a defeat of HSV in Rostock in order to still jump to relegation rank three. Direct ascent is then not possible.

Will the lilies win…

…, SV Werder gets at least one point and HSV wins, then Darmstadt is only left with the unloved fourth place.
… and Hamburger SV does not win, then the lilies have at least third place, which entitles them to be relegated.
…, HSV wins and Bremen loses, then the lilies also have third place for sure.
…, HSV does not win and Bremen loses, then the lilies would rise directly as second in the table.
