Álvaro Gutiérrez highlights the work of the Toledo Provincial Council in the promotion and defense of sport in the province

The president of the Diputación de Toledo, Álvaro Gutiérrez, today closed the XXVIII Sports Gala of the province of Toledo that was held last night, emphasizing that “sport is camaraderie, it is solidarity, it is the desire to improve, it is healthy competitiveness, and from the Provincial council we work to promote and defend it in our province”.

Álvaro Gutiérrez defended “the management of the different sports programs so that the right to play sports reaches all corners, and is a real possibility for Toledo men and women of all ages.”

And he mentioned the recovery “of the most demanded programs, such as the pre-benjamín and benjamín championships, recovered when COVID-19 has allowed us to do so, with the desire and desire that the next course recover all the intensity and the provincial programming prior to the pandemic.”

“We develop -he continued- throughout our territory the initiation schools, with almost 4,000 participants, we grant subsidies and aid to town halls, municipal boards, absolute and youth clubs, to finance expenses derived from their activity, or participation in federated competitions”.

He also alluded to the importance of collaborating with other administrations, such as the Castilla-La Mancha Community Board, with whom we carry out the “We are sports 3-18” program, in which more than 7,000 athletes from our province, as well as the Regional School-age Sports Championship, with 18 sports available to our young people, whose local and provincial phase we manage from the Toledo Provincial Council”.

Therefore, the president of the Diputación pointed out that “this is part of what we do and what we want to continue doing, because physical exercise is good for the body and also for the mind, because it helps the new generations to grow while maintaining the form, follow a healthy life, reduce the risk of some diseases, and the elderly to enjoy an active and healthy ageing”.

Awards of the XXVIII Sports Gala

The president of the Diputación congratulated this year’s winners, without forgetting the entire community of athletes in our province and being proud “to know that they represent us wherever they compete, boasting of Toledanism to make us feel special for belonging to this extraordinary land ”.

And he had words “for their families, true supports of their effort, of their falls and rises, of their successes and also of the other results, as tireless companions of training, travel, sacrifices, renunciations and servitude”.

Álvaro Gutiérrez addressed the shooter Alberto Fernández, winner of the Toledo Provincial Award, to remind him that “the award you have received today is a fair and deserved recognition of your career, which comes in addition to the special mention we gave you in 2018 and that we hope will occupy a special place in your heart, because we give it to you, your people, your province, your land, and we do it for a single reason: plain, simple and simply… because you deserve it”.

This year’s Diputación award comes endorsed by his brilliant sports career, his recent Olympic gold in Tokyo 2020, his triple crown as world champion in 2010, 2013 and 2018, or his recent world championship in the Olympic pit, in addition to his career studded with success.

The president of the Diputación de Toledo also had words of thanks for the sports press “for their work and fundamental role in the dissemination and knowledge of our champions and champions”, who this year elected the Spanish water polo player and captain of the national team, Pili Peña, who treasures great triumphs, such as silver in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, as well as gold in world and European championships.

He conveyed his congratulations and reminded him “that collective sport also requires individual leadership to guide the team in human and sporting values, and that is our water polo player.”

Álvaro Gutiérrez also stopped to praise the qualities and achievements of the three special mentions, which were collected by Juan José Arroyo Abenza, in the modality of adapted cycling-Handbike-MH3, Gabriel Mendoza Tello, in triathlon cross, and Gema María Gómez Antona, in judo.

And the president of the Provincial Council did not forget the 35 provincial awards, “chosen for their careers, their triumphs, their human values, their example and their desire to excel, since each and every one of them is unique, champions of all those who practice their favorite sport and aspire to stand out in it, and we thank them for making us feel proud of the province and of belonging to this land”.

The words that President Álvaro Gutiérrez addressed to all those attending the Toledo Provincial Council Gala marked the end of a meeting with sport in the province of Toledo that has filled the Eurocaja Rural conference center with joy and emotions. which is the place where this long-awaited event has been held this year, and which was opened by the Deputy for Tourism, Crafts and Sports, María Jesús Pérez.

The 40 winners, supported by their families and friends, enthusiastically received their awards that were presented to them by the different institutional representatives who participated in the gala, such as the delegate of the Board in Toledo, Javier Úbeda, the provincial delegate of Education, Culture and Sports, José Gutiérrez; the sub-delegate of the Government in Toledo, Carlos Dévia; and the delegate of the Board in Talavera de la Reina, David Gómez.
