After defeating West Ham 2-1, Mikel Arteta is increasingly confident that Arsenal will expel Chelsea from the top three of the 2021-2022 Premier League: Okezone Bola

COACH Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta looks optimistic about displacing Chelsea from the top three in the 2021-2022 Premier League. He felt this after his team managed to frustrate West Ham 2-1 in the 35th week of the English League this season.

Arsenal have consistently appeared in the top four of the Premier League standings following three consecutive wins. Most recently, the Gunners (Arsenal’s nickname) managed to take a narrow lead over West Ham United at the London Stadium on Sunday 1 May 2022.

Arsenal gain full points through goals Rob Holding (38′) and Gabriel (54′). West Ham fought back thanks to Jarrod Bowen’s goal (45′).

Thanks to this victory, Arsenal are now firmly in fourth place in the standings, with a collection of 63 points. The team from North London are only three points adrift of Chelsea, who are third in the Premier League standings this season.

Because of this, Mikel Arteta is optimistic that his team can displace Chelsea in third place. According to him, his team is fully motivated to continue the positive trend for the rest of the season.

“Mathematically everything is open, so we have to deal with it and we have a big chance and the will and motivation that we have to keep doing things (on the table),” said Mikel Artera, quoted by the club’s official website.

“We have to go to Leeds and win again because everyone is going to put pressure on, everyone wants to be where we are now,” he added.

Furthermore, Mikel Arteta said that he was happy with his team’s development this season. The 40-year-old man is satisfied that his team can bounce back after having suffered three consecutive defeats from the beginning to mid-April 2022

“Yes, and we have to keep doing it (win games), so the level in this league is incredible, teams win at home and away in the same way,” he said.

“We have to learn to do that consistently, and this season we have again proved that we can do it.”

Just to note, the race for tickets to the Champions League zone next season in the English League is very tight. There are four teams that are now fighting to lock up the Champions League quota next season.

The four teams are Chelsea who are in third place with 66 points. Then, Arsenal (63 points), Tottenham Hotspur (61 points), and Manchester United (55 points). So who can ensure tickets to the Champions League next season?
