A multiplayer that falls short of its predecessor (REVIEW)

‘Nintendo Switch Sports‘ is the new installment of the already legendary saga that began with ‘Wii Sports‘ in 2006 with surprising results for the industry.

‘Wii Sports’ was one of the first games to successfully implement motion controls in an engaging way, giving a new sports video game experience that ‘Nintendo Switch Sports’ wants to replicate.

As if this wasn’t enough, said game got a sequel in 2009 with ‘Wii Sports Resort‘; to then be forgotten, until now.

Does ‘Nintendo Switch Sports’ manage to maintain this legacy? Unfortunately, this is not the case, not because it is a bad game in terms of mechanics, but because of some details that affect the experience.

But let’s go by parts with ‘Nintendo Switch Sports’.

How do you play ‘Nintendo Switch Sports’?

‘Nintendo Switch Sports‘ continues the mechanics of playing with motion control technology in this case the Joy Con de Switch.

Obviously this decision seems to fit naturally with the console and with the general theme of ‘Nintendo Switch Sports’.

Like ‘Wii Sports’, ‘Nintendo Switch Sports’ can be played with a Joy-Con, with minimal button prompts, as it focuses on motion controls. Everything is very intuitive and the controls are extremely responsive.

That yes, of the sports that are present in ‘Nintendo Switch Sports’, the six can be enjoyed from one to four players.

What are sports like on ‘Nintendo Switch Sports’?

It also features three different stances for players to experiment with and change the gameplay, to make it the most rewarding and mechanically deep sport on the list.

It is worth mentioning that, although the matches are four against four, only two players can play locally. If four players could play in the same game, it could be one of the best in ‘Nintendo Switch Sports’.

Tennis is played exclusively in doubles, and is basically a faster, cooperative version of Badminton; so it adds little to ‘Nintendo Switch Sports’.

For volleyball, “Nintendo Switch Sports” encourages the player to hold the Joy-Con like they would in real life trying to hit, set, spike and block the ball.

All four components are very sensitive, and a slightly misguided shot can be the difference between a shot being on the line or out of bounds.

What else does ‘Nintendo Switch Sports’ bring?

‘Nintendo Switch Sports‘ also has a component online multiplayer; however, at the time of writing this review, the game is full of bots.

We don’t know if it was on purpose or stemming from some strong decision for ‘Nintendo Switch Sports’, like not having enough players.

However, this ruins the social and cooperative multi-sport experience of ‘Nintendo Switch Sports’, making there no difference between playing alone or online.

From a graphical perspective, ‘Nintendo Switch Sports’ is right up there with the average games on today’s console.

The decision to design the new avatars is well received, since the customization options are sufficient for what the game offers, there is also the option of choosing the design of the avatars of Wii.

Is ‘Nintendo Switch Sports’ worth it?

‘Nintendo Switch Sports‘ is a fun option to hang out with friends and family for that game night.

However, ‘Nintendo Switch Sports’ is also an experience that feels archaic in the sense of not being as fresh as its predecessor.

Add to this a limited list of sports, which makes its appeal and longevity limited.

You could say that ‘Nintendo Switch Sports’ took too long to come out, if it had come out with the hybrid console, like ‘Wii Sports‘ did it with Wii, his reception would be different.
