A dragon, a unicorn and a famous three-master: the Cavalcade of Angerville, this Sunday, May 22, promises an astonishing team

Sunday May 22, close to the Loiret, it will be possible to see a dragon, spitting smoke. Not fire: because in the present case, there is smoke without fire.

Said dragon will take its ease parading in Angerville (Essonne), from 3 p.m., and he will not be alone. A unicorn will follow in its footsteps, as well as a curious carriage: the Tour d’Angerville, a fortified castle, a trebuchet…

So many characters, buildings or objects that will form the decor of the floats of the grand parade of the Cavalcade d’Angerville. It is making a comeback this year in the town of Essonne (4,000 inhabitants).

Created in 1973 by Guy Bonin and managed since by the local festival committeethis festive event takes place every two years – so you can imagine that in the pandemic spring of 2020, the tanks had remained in the garage…

Each year, a theme is chosen, and this time, it’s medieval-fantasy (hence the dragon and the unicorn) which guided the creativity of the members of the committee, but also of the inhabitants who lent a hand to the adventure.

“We make the floats from A to Z”, underlines Thierry Demoisson, the secretary of the festival committee, chaired by Françoise Boivin. All skills, from seamstress to mechanic to artist, are therefore welcome. and useful. As are the opinions of everyone: the choices are, as much as possible, collegial.

Recycling

The committee does not forget to be in tune with the times, ecological: the tanks assembled for an edition are, as far as possible, reused for the following ones, redecorated according to the chosen theme. Even when this is not possible and they have to be dismantled, these creative handymen try to reuse what can be, to avoid setting fire to all (this) wood. A happy recycling, then – a happy-cycling, let’s dare to use the neologism.

Sunday, therefore, costumed Angervillois, children, young and old, will ride on these multi-coloured vehicleslarge dummy swords in hand – because “we made weaponry a bit manga-style, it speaks to a lot of young people”.

If the dragon will therefore spit smoke, the unicorn will also have surprises in store that will delight toddlers in particular (we won’t reveal everything here). A musical group will accompany each float.

Archery and tree climbing

In addition to the parade, from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. the city (mainly rue and place du Général-Leclerc) will be immersed in the medieval atmospherewith the presence of medieval craftsmen, demonstration workshops of old trades, archery, old wooden games… A tavern will also be open for feasting.

Other attractions: of the Accrovail. It is, neither more nor less, than climbing on a (famous) three-master (hoist and oh), harnessed, safely. What “create exchange, good times shared, a village life”, believes Thierry Demoisson.

In a town at the crossroads of Chartres, Orléans, and Paris, which could quickly be decked out with the unenviable qualifier of “dormitory town”, Maintaining this communal flame through such events is essential.

Then, from Monday, May 23, for the volunteers it will be time to think about the continuation. Namely the theme of the Cavalcade of 2024, and the decorations of the tanks to imagine accordingly…Because time, between two editions, also runs away!

Practice. Sunday, May 22, from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Angerville, mainly place and rue du Général-Leclerc.
