Crazy end in the crazy promotion fight!

On matchday 34 of the second division, Bremen (2-0 against Regensburg), Hamburg (3-2 in Rostock) and Darmstadt (3-0 against Paderborn) win.

WERDER CELEBRATES, rises directly alongside second division champions Schalke (2-1 in Nuremberg).

HAMBURG CHEERS, meets Hertha in the relegation (May 19/23).

DARMSTADT MOURNS, is only fourth.

HSV board member Jonas Boldt on Sky on the relegation against Hertha: “It’s more than deserved. We played an outstanding season. We go into the games with confidence.” Goalscorer Robert Glatzel: “An unbelievable atmosphere. It’s just great to be able to stand here on the field.”

Hertha trainer Felix Magath (68), who observed the possible second relegation opponent in Darmstadt, to BILD: “HSV, that’s completely out of the question, is the biggest part of my footballer’s life. But, that doesn’t matter at all for these two encounters! It’s still not about me or my past with HSV. It’s all about Hertha BSC – about staying up. I saw a lot of Bundesliga 2 games, HSV was one of the best teams for me.”

The last matchday in the promotion log:

2. Minute: Darmstadt starts straight away: 2nd minute. Tietz heads to Tim Skarke on the edge of the box, who hits the short corner. Darmstadt is now in third place!

7. Minute: In Bremen, Weiser relies heavily on Niclas Füllkrug, who scores to make it 1-0. But the flag quickly goes up – offside!

10. Minute: But now the filling jug can really celebrate! In front of the penalty area, Ducksch claps for a moment, and Füllkrug also hammers the ball into the short corner. 1:0 and green and white cheers in the Weser Stadium!

13. Minute: Goal in Rostock – but for Hansa! Sikan escapes behind Schonlau, his cross from the baseline rolls past everyone, Nico Neidhart only has to push in.

The HSV shock! Now the Hanseatic League is three points behind Darmstadt and in third place.

25. Minute: Darmstadt sets the next sign of promotion! After a cross from Bader, clipper Luca Pfeiffer is completely blank on the five. He scored his 16th goal of the season to make it 2-0 without any problems.

38. Minute: Darmstadt again, Pfeiffer again! Darmstadt leads 3-0, doesn’t let anything burn.

Then it’s half time. In Rostock, HSV sneaks off the field, in Bremen and Darmstadt the fans are already celebrating during the break. And we can keep partying even after the restart.

51. Minute: Schmid tanks up on the right in the penalty area and brings the ball into the middle. Since Marvin Ducksch pokes the ball into the goal. 2:0!

Almost at the same time, the HSV draws relegation hope again!

51. Minute: After a cross from Vuskovic, Robert Glatzel climbs up, hits the lower edge of the bar with his header and is then allowed to celebrate. 1:1!

The Hamburg equalizer – now HSV is only missing one goal for third place!

69. Minute: Darmstadt remains unimpressed. Pfeiffer’s three-pack goal to make it 4-0 is whistled off because of a narrow offside.

75. Minute: Now the HSV is very close to the relegation! Captain Sebastian Schonlau heaves a Reis cross into the goal with his head. 2:1 for HSV – at 5:05 p.m. HSV is in the relegation game.

Then HSV puts the lid on it!

85. Minute: Mikkel Kaufmann flicks the ball from the left corner of the penalty area into the crease – a dream goal makes the relegation clear!

89. Minute: In Darmstadt, the fans continue to cheer on their team, but the euphoria is gone.

90.+1 Minute: Rostock makes it exciting again! Lukas Fröde hits the header to make it 2:3.

But then it’s over! And after the crazy last day of the game, one thing is certain: Bremen will rise directly, HSV saves itself in the relegation. Despite the gala performance, Darmstadt remains in the second division. Because Schalke wins 2-1 in Nuremberg, the Royal Blues end the season as champions.
