1st week at the French Open – Teichmann moves into round 3 of a major tournament for the first time – Sport

  • Jil Teichmann (WTA 24) is in the third round of the French Open after beating Olga Danilovic (WTA 172) 6-4, 6-1.
  • The young Serbian can only challenge the Swiss in the first set, but then falls apart. For Teichmann it is the first entry into the 3rd round of a major tournament.
  • In the fight for a round of 16 ticket, Teichmann meets Belarusian Victoria Azarenka (WTA 15).

It was 3 games in the opening game against Bernarda Pera (USA/WTA 40) that Jil Teichmann had to give up. In round 2 there were only two more wins that the Swiss had to concede to her opponent. After just 78 minutes, Olga Danilovic (WTA 172) congratulated Teichmann on the deserved 6: 4, 6: 1 success.

Found the looseness thanks to the sentence lead

The result speaks a clear language. Especially in the second round, Teichmann put her stamp on the game. Solid as always on defence, the Seelander felt more comfortable on offense as the game progressed. For her part, the only 21-year-old Serbian had major problems, especially with her serve. So Danilovic made 9 double mistakes.

The sticking point was the final phase in the 1st set. Until the score was 3:2 from Teichmann’s point of view, both players managed their service without any problems. A flood of breaks followed – with the better end for the Swiss. Danilovic managed the immediate rebreak twice, but missed 2 balls at 4: 5 to equalize. Teichmann, on the other hand, used her 2nd set ball to win the not high-class, but exciting 1st round.

Second round curse ended

While Danilovic couldn’t cope with losing the starting set, Teichmann raised her level significantly. With long returns and good running work, the 24-year-old increasingly put her opponent under pressure. From the 2-2 in the 1st round, Danilovic couldn’t get through a single service game, she conceded 6 breaks in a row.

For her part, Teichmann is in the third round of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time ever. At the Australian Open and the US Open, the second round meant two final stops, at Roland Garros she had not been able to win a match in the main draw before this year.

If Teichmann’s path in Paris is to go further, the 24-year-old has to get a big name out of the way on Friday. Opponent in the 3rd round is Victoria Azarenka. The two-time Grand Slam champion and current world number 15 from Belarus prevailed in the second round in 2 sets against Andrea Petkovic (GER/WTA 65).
