Zverev beats Sinner and advances to Semifinals in Monte Carlo

The German Alexander Zverev won 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (5) over Jannik Sinner in a Monte-Carlo Masters classic to advance to the semi-finals of the first clay-court tournament of the season.

Sinner recovered from a break of serve to win the first set and Zverev returned the favor to the Italian in the second.

The 24-year-old German came from behind twice in the third set and had to extend the quarter-final duel to a tie break.

In a match with 10 breaks of serve, half of the tiebreak points were against the serve.

Davidovich Fokina He broke the 10th-seeded man’s serve with the deciding set tied 3-3 to enter his first semi-final, where he will play Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov.

“I am enjoying every point,” said Davidovich Fokina. “I stayed focused and believed in myself.”

Dimitrov beat Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (2).

The Bulgarian from qualifier lost two match points in the deciding set before taking it in the tiebreaker.
