WTA: Leylah Fernandez bows her back in Charleston in front of Magda Linette

Leylah Fernandez was defeated in the second round at the Charleston Open on Thursday, as Magda Linette of Poland prevailed 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Seventh seed, the Quebecer had obtained a pass in the first round.

Author of the 10 aces of the game, Linette had the advantage 5-4 for the breaks.

Favorite Aryna Sabalenka was surprised by American Amanda Anisimova, who reached the quarter-finals winning 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Aged 20, Anisimova is ranked 47th in the world.

She ended the match with a sixth ace, remaining undefeated in three matches against Sabalenka, fifth in the WTA.

In the American duel, CoCo Vandeweghe defeated Jessica Pegula 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
