Westfalenpokal: Three regional league teams want to play in the DFB-Pokal

On Wednesday evening there are not only two quarter-finals in the Lower Rhine Cup, but also two semi-finals in the Westphalia Cup. A regional league trio wants to reach the final.

While in the Niederrheinpokal two – on Wednesday Bocholt meets MSV Duisburg and FC Kray against Wuppertaler SV – out of four quarter-final pairings still have to be played, the semi-finals in the Westfalenpokal are coming up.

the SV Roedinghausen receives Red white awls in the Regionalliga West duel. After 2018 and 2019, the SVR wants to move into the DFB Cup main round for the third time in history. Before that, however, Carsten Rump’s team has to eliminate Ahlen and win the final.

“That’s our goal!” emphasizes Alexander Mueller. The managing director makes no secret of Rödinghauser’s plans, but also warns of the opponents in the semi-finals: “Ahlen is a very unpleasant opponent. They play simply, but fight all the more passionately. It will be a close, competitive thing. But if we increase our horsepower bring the lawn, then I’m in good spirits,” says Müller and certainly has the most recent five league threes in a row of SV Rödinghausen in the back of his mind.

But Ahlen is also hot for the final and the chance to move into the DFB Cup. “Everyone to Rödinghausen” is the Ahlen motto on social media. The club is hoping for a lot of support in the Wiehenstadion. The importance of the game is emphasized once again by the RWA trainer Andrew Zimmerman. The people of Ahlen still remember the regional league game in Rödinghausen as an encouragement, which the Zimmermann team won 1-0 with a goal by David Mamutovic that is well worth seeing. “We did a lot that day and the hosts didn’t. If we can repeat this performance, it will be difficult for the Rödinghausen team to beat us,” said Zimmermann. He adds: “After 2016 (0:3 against SG Wattenscheid 09, editor’s note), we want to be in this final again.”

SC Preussen Münster, representing the regional league, and SC Verl, who are known to play in the 3rd league, also want to go into the final on May 21 – the venue is not yet known. Both the Rödinghausen-Ahlen and Münster-Verl games will kick off at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
