We have a new team with experience and youth: Germán Ayala

With new faces and highly experienced athletes, this is how the national judo team presents itself at the Pan American and Oceania Championships, which will take place from April 15 to 17, in Lima Peru, first international event of the year for the team that will begin its path to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The technical director of the Mexican Judo Federation (FMJ), German Ayala Arellano, shared to the National Commission of Physical Culture and Sports (CONADE), that for this Olympic cycle a selection is presented with new members who changed category, from youth to senior, and who will be guided by those selected with experience.

It is a new team of coaches, of boys with more experience and with new faces; We returned to work, again, the women’s team with the men’s together, because previously we separated them and it seems that it did not work very well, but right now, they are all very excited about this process, “said the federation.

Among the faces that appear for this process are Arath Juárez and Paulina Garnica, both silver and bronze medalists, respectively, in the Junior Pan American Games Cali-Valle 2021, who closed their stage in this category and were summoned by the FMJ to complement the major.

They went from the junior to the senior, it is a difficult step because in this category the competitions are more complicated; They both have experience in high-level events, but they have made a very big leap, especially Paulina, because she had covid-19, she joined the team for Cali halfway through preparation, but she had an impressive leap that reached the medals.”

They have to go to the World Cup, because it is part of their commitments with the national team, it is not an easy thing to get into the 16 in the world, but you have to continue working with them so that they can achieve their goals”, he said.

He announced that the continental fair, which will be held at the Villa Deportiva Nacional (VIDENA), in the Peruvian city, and which will receive more than 230 judokas from 25 countries, will be the beginning of the Olympic cycle for the team.

It is practically the beginning of the cycle; we need to start participating to make points and reach the World Championship, which is very important for the ranking, which starts in June, with 50 percent of the points and to reach the world championship it is necessary to be within the first 100 of the ranking, everyone is currently inside,” he explained.

The team fine-tuned technical details, facing the Pan American, at CONADE’s Villas Tlalpan, a place where it will continue its preparation for the events of the competitive calendar from May to December, and will be under the work of coaches Jorge Luis Atencio Ramírez, Idalia Rodríguez, in addition to Ayala Arellano.
