Transfer: Rémy Cabella back in Montpellier

The return of the child prodigy. Eight years after his departure, Rémy Cabella is making a comeback to Montpellier. The club announced it in the morning on social networks, in a clip where he poses all smiles with club president Laurent Nicollin. At the beginning of March, the midfielder was released by the Russian club FK Krasnodar, where he had been playing since 2019. Impacted by the war in Ukraine, Krasnodar had decided to terminate the contracts of its eight foreign players. Fifa and UEFA have since authorized transfers of players playing in Ukraine and Russia.

The Frenchman then returned to Montpellier, where he finished treating an injury. For a few days, the former international (4 selections) had even been training with Olivier Dall’Oglio’s group, and had kicked off the meeting between Montpellier and Brest on Sunday.

Trained in Montpellier, Rémy Cabella played there for the club for five seasons, from 2009 to 2014, interspersed with a one-year loan to Arles-Avignon. He wore the Montpellier jersey 116 times for 28 goals, and was an important part of the 2012 French champion team. He then flew to England and Newcastle, before returning to Ligue 1, in Marseille then in Saint Etienne.

A few days ago, he spoke at the microphone of Canal + the possibility of completing his career in his training club: “Finish in Montpellier? I always thought about it. I never really talked about it because I was never asked. But it’s true that […] the circle would be complete”. Rémy Cabella will wear number 22 until the end of the season. The Hérault club is currently 11th in Ligue 1.
