Golf in our times has a meaning: Tiger Woods. The maximum figure returned to the big events 13 months after the serious car accident that caused a fracture in his right leg. And the Augusta Masters is delighted to welcome him.

Tiger returned after 508 days without competing and did so by overcoming the Augusta cut in eleventh position with 71 strokes (-1). At 46 years old he continues to get the same ovation from the public that he did before he won the 15 Majors he owns.

Last December Tiger was at the PNC Championship and there he gave his new first hits with his son Charlie and a Peruvian witnessed it. What Woods generates transcends and national golf is no stranger to it.

“I was around Tiger at the PNC. He looked good, calm, cheerful. Playing with his son, obviously, he is not in the same world as the Masters,” Peruvian Julian Perico tells us. “He moved very well, hit him well every time and looked in control of his body and his game,” he adds.

He himself tells us the moment he shared with his idol. “When I met him in person, I had to leave dinner and call my mom to tell her. It was a special moment“, tells us. He was at the aforementioned PNC Championship last December. Perico was also competing. “We passed each other, I greeted them and I said: “my name is Julian”, he told me: “My name is Tiger”. He wished me good luck and shook my hand”, our golfer tells us via whatsapp. “He is the best in history, sentence.”

Tiger is the reason why many sports lovers are inclined to practice it professionally and one of them is Luis Fernando Barco. “He is an idol, one of the big reasons why I play. Growing up watching it was spectacular”, he tells us. Although he assures that he did not enjoy the best Tiger, in the 2000s, videos of him have been seen “about 200 times”, and today he values ​​everything he continues to contribute to the sport. “It’s extraordinary how he revolutionized the sport and to have him back after injuries, personal issues, the crash, it’s extraordinary. It was not known if he was going to be able to walk and that he returns in Augusta is impressive”, says our representative, who is preparing for the Peru Open that will take place at the end of the month.

And the idol continues to generate followers. Ariana Urrea, 14, also follows every step Tiger takes. “That she plays the Masters means an overcoming of immense effort. He did two hours of warm-up, played and then two hours of therapy. She has been able to do that and much more by playing golf.. The message is not to give up no matter how complicated things are”, tells us our golfer who lives in the United States.

And Tiger’s presence will continue to encourage more kids to follow this sport. “Tiger Woods changed golf, he made it popular. He made people start not only to play, but also to watch it, creating audiences never seen before for this sport”, says Guillermo Zariquiey, today director of the Peruvian Golf Federation. “Just walking is miraculous and playing with the best in the world is truly out of this universe”, he adds highlighting Tiger’s act of overcoming.

Thus, this weekend golf will have its idol in action and surely many are already imagining his next steps and will hope to see him more often. As long as there is Tiger, there will be good golf.
