Four badminton players from Mont-Louis, or badminton players for insiders, brought home the gold at the end of the Grande-Rivière/Chandler tournament which brought together a hundred players from Gaspésie.

The first player to win the tournament in the male cadet category is the Montlouisien, Félix Lefebvre. He first disposed of Samuel Anthony in two sets of 21-10 and 21-14 thus propelling him into the quarter-finals against his compatriot Tommy Goupil. Lefebvre defeated his opponent in straight sets, allowing him to reach the semi-finals against Olivier Samuel of Rivière-au-Renard. Lefebvre recorded another victory guaranteeing him a place in the final, this time against another compatriot from Mont-Louis, William Mercier-Campion. After a hard-fought game, Félix Lefebvre was crowned grand champion in his category. The road to victory was not easy since it took three sets to overcome his opponent.

In men’s doubles, the two junior finalists teamed up. The duo Lefebvre and Mercier-Campion had only two games to play, having earned a bye in the first round. Very quickly, the Montlouis badistes won by beating Anthony and Olivier Samuel in two sets of 21-7 and 21-17. This victory took them directly to the final where they won the gold medal by winning in straight sets against the duo of Samuel Boudreau and William Roussy from Carleton-sur-Mer.

In the cadet category, the mixed duo of Rosalie Cyr and Tommy Goupil accomplished the same feat as Mercier-Campion and Lefebvre by winning the gold medal. Cyr and Goupil had to compete against three duos, from Causapscal, Sayabec and Gaspé in the final. During the latter, the Mont-Louis duo snatched victory from Emma Shaw-Lantin and Clément Sirois in two sets of 21-18 and 21-14.

Other players also had interesting runs during the tournament. This is particularly the case of Adam Soucy and Jérémi Deschênes, also from Mont-Louis. “We have several participants who have reached the quarter-finals. We are very proud of their journey,” concluded the coaches, Jean-Christophe Lemieux and Dominic Gagné.
