Thomas Pieters drank the chalice to the dregs

With a total of +15 in two rounds, the Antwerper sank in Augusta.

With two bad cards of 79 and 80, for a total of +15, Thomas Pieters left Augusta National (by 72), the scene of the 82nd edition of the Masters. The Antwerp player had landed in Georgia with the secret hope of repeating his exploit of 2017 where he finished in fourth place. Unfortunately, on this diabolical course, nothing happened as planned.

Friday, during the first round, the protege of Jérôme Theunis had, from the start, conceded two bogeys on his first two holes. A catastrophic departure from which he was never going to recover. Augusta is a journey that forgives nothing and where patience and wisdom are required. Too in a hurry, no doubt, to go up the slope, Pieters gradually sank. Hesitant drives, average approaches and failing putting: he drank the chalice to the dregs.
