There is a truth, Rio Ferdinand made a comparison between Man United captain Harry Maguire and Barcelona defender Gerard Pique

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand compared captain Harry Maguire to Barcelona defender Gerard Pique.

Lately, Maguire has received criticism following his poor performance which led to the negative results that Ralf Rangnick’s squad picked up this season.

The England international must find his team now languishing in seventh place in the Premier League standings and in danger of failing to appear in the Champions League next season.

Maguire appeared to have difficulty expressing his best performance in the Red Devils jersey, and has been responsible for conceding goals several times due to his individual errors.

Even so, Ferdinand tried to be fair to the captain.

“In the England uniform, he is nothing but a phenomenal. He is invisible. You can’t say he is a dead player. He was extraordinary with the England national team,” Ferdinand said on the Youtube Show.

“I mean, with England he was really great. They play a certain style of football that maybe suits him,” added the legend.

“Gerard Pique was at Man United. You could argue that he might not have the career he had with Barcelona if he stayed at Man United, because of the way he plays,” Ferdinand explained.

“It’s like boxing, the style of making a fight. It’s the same with football. Man United’s style of play, the way they try to play, doesn’t suit Maguire.”

“But also form and self-confidence. Confidence plays a big role and I don’t care who you are, you can be [Lionel] Messi, [Cristiano] Ronaldo, [Zinedine] Zidane, [Kylian] Mbappe, players like this. If confidence is low, they won’t be the same player.”
