The return of Yuta Galarreta to seek the gold medal at the Lima 2022 Pan American Judo Championship | FULL-SPORTS

The Peruvian Judo Delegationwhich faces the Lima 2022 Cadet, Junior and Senior Pan American and Oceania Championships at VIDENA Sports Center 1 since April 9, is made up of various Pan American medalists such as Yuta Galarreta.

Peru has achieved 4 medals so far. Noemí Huayhuameza won the gold medal in the Junior category -52 kg. And in the Cadets category, Luciana Julca -57 kg. obtained the silver medal and Benjamín Galarreta (-81 kg.) and Sebastián Benítez (-90 kg.) achieved the bronze in this event that brings together 450 judokas from 25 countries.

The national judoka overcame an injury and is preparing to climb to the top of the podium in the Senior championship -90 kg category. Galarreta this April 15,16 and 17.

Yuta is undoubtedly one of Peru’s main cards in the tournament, which has the presence of athletes from 24 countries, including those from the continent of Oceania, who due to the pandemic were unable to carry out their competition.

“I come with an injury, but I train daily to arrive in the best way at the start of the Pan American. For me, it doesn’t matter how many countries will come, I will just do my job and seek to raise the name of my country”, highlighted the judoka after one of the demanding training sessions he performs at Videna.

Galarreta highlighted the importance of the Pan American Championship for his career and confessed to being very anxious, since he has not competed in Peru for three years. The last time was in 2019, when he won the gold medal at the Pan American Games organized by our country.

“This will be my first competition here, in Peru, after Lima 2019. I am improving my diet to arrive in optimal conditions for the start of the championship. There are many expectations because it is at home, ”said the athlete, specifying that he has competed more in recent years abroad.

The national judoka also highlighted the work carried out by the Peruvian Judo Sports Federation together with the Peruvian Sports Institute to make the tournament a success. Both institutions have already held major events in Lima in recent years with the recognition of Federations from other countries and visiting athletes.

The Lima 2022 Cadet, Junior and Senior Pan American and Oceania Championship began on April 9 with the cadet competitions. The next day was the Junior Tournament and then on April 11 the Junior Mixed Teams Tournament.
