the Liège club obtains its license for the D1A

Last Tuesday, Standard went before the Licensing Commission with the firm intention of defending its case. In the end, the discussions only lasted a few minutes.

This Wednesday, good news for the Liège club: we learn that the latter has won its license. He will therefore be able to continue the adventure within Division 1A. As a reminder, among all the elite clubs, the Rouches were the only ones not to have obtained their license for next season.

Three conditions had to be met

On March 17, the license auditor had issued a favorable opinion on the Standard professional license file in its report sent to the Federation’s Licensing Commission. A favorable opinion but subject to three conditions to be fulfilled to obtain the precious sesame. And to be completed by Tuesday April 5, the date when the Liège club was summoned before the Licensing Commission.

“There are reasonable expectations that the continuity of the club for the duration of the license will be guaranteed,” the licensing auditor said at the time, “provided that the following cumulative conditions are met”. Which ones, concretely?

One: that a “Share purchase agreement” (i.e. the sales contract which defines the terms of the transfer of ownership of the shares when the club is sold) is signed by all the parties and does not contain any condition precedent so that the transfer actions are fully realized.

Two: that the useful documents concerning the transparency of the new structure are provided by the new shareholder.

Three: that this new main shareholder make the necessary funds available in the short term in order to guarantee the continuity of the club and more specifically, that it carry out a capital increase “of at least 15 million euros” so that the continuity of the club is ensured until June 30, 2023 and that it deposits on the table, immediately, at least 5 million euros.
