The president of LaLiga, Javier Tebas, described as “strong” the millionaire commissionbecause, according to information from ‘El Confidencial’, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) reached an agreement with the Kosmos company, of which the Barcelona player Gerard Piqué is co-owner and CEO, for the transfer of the Spanish Super Cup to Saudi Arabia.
The head of LaLiga assured, in statements to the media present at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell-Conde de Godó Trophy facilities, that he prefers to refrain from giving his opinion on what happened until he has read all the information and those involved give their version.
“I haven’t heard the audio. It is a subject in which until those involved do not give their opinion I am not going to say anything; and they will have to say whether these audios are true or not, whether what is spoken there is true or not, “he said.
Tebas refers to the audios of the conversations held between the president of the RFEF, Luis Rubiales, and the Barça player and documents on the contract signed for six years with the Saudi public company, Sela, which assured the RFEF the amount of 40 million euros for each edition and 4 for Kosmos.
The information published by El Confidencial indicates that Rubiales and Piqué began in March 2019 the search for a stadium for the Super Cupbefore the president of the RFEF raised with Real Madrid the possibility of it being in his stadium, although the idea was that it be played at the Camp Nou.
However, Tebas did consider that what was explained by ‘El Confidencial’ “is strong” and, therefore, he prefers to wait to assess what happened. However, he believed that the distribution of money for the Spanish Super Cup that is played in Saudi Arabia “has never been very transparent” and referred to a “important complaint from Valencia” in this regard.
“Putting it abroad seems correct to me, we have wanted to do it but they have not let us. As an idea it does not have my opposition, then all the intricacies behind what one charges or fails to charge… There are some issues that I do not agree with, with the issue of distribution, especially the clubs that are not Real Madrid and Barcelona, but I will have to give my opinion when I hear the audios,” he settled.
