“We met through our husbands, childhood friends. I was already doing a lot of sport and Johanna was trail running. One day we decided to do the Black Mountain trail and that day, I asked her if she wanted to be my partner to participate in a raid. We were in the snow, it was hard, but we thought we were there for each other, and off we went! “says Émilie Cucullières, 32, Labruguiéroise and professional firefighter in Haute-Garonne, in team with Johanna Salvage, 37-year-old Soualaise, pharmacy assistant in Labruguière, married and mother of two children.

After three years of waiting, the two friends were finally able to fly to the island, nestled in the south-east of India, in the heart of the Indian Ocean and face the 70 opposing teams in multiple sporting events: Mountain biking, canoeing, running, archery, treasure hunts…
“We did the sports events in the morning and in the afternoon, we were immersed with the locals, the ethnic groups, with whom we participated in humanitarian actions. It was interesting to have the morning to surpass oneself, to combine solidarity and mutual aid and in the afternoon, to go to schools, learn to cook, discover the fauna and flora. We discover the country, it is quite exceptional. The Sri Lankan people are magical, smiling, welcoming, benevolent. It’s really a warm people. It was magical, very striking. We are combative, we trained a lot and very happy to have finished first, but beyond the sporting aspect and the competition which is not really one, there is an incredible human aspect. recognizes Emilie.
