Super League: Juve, Real and Barcelona refuse the fines? No cups 2023

No sting on Juve, Real Madrid and Barcelona. For the moment. Because the Uefa-Superlega conflict is far from a solution. The order of the new judge of the Madrid commercial court, Sofia Gil, certainly more “independent” than her predecessor, has eased the pressure on Nyon. But now we move on to the merits, hearing on June 14. And then there is always the EU Court: it seems, however, that the timing of the sentence is extended to 2023. A success of the Super League would be explosive for the principle of law affirmed, but not easy to achieve in practice, with also the constraints of England and Germany.

Disciplinary for the rebels

Meanwhile, the question shifts to the Champions League. The Madrid judge has returned to UEFA the power to sanction the rebels, but UEFA has neither time nor desire to do so now. Everyone will go to the next cups. Different speech for 2023-24. First there will be the disciplinary judgment which provides for a fine of 15 million plus the withholding of 5% of the UEFA premiums (as for the other rebels). Failure to re-enter the system, put simply, would mean Real, Barça and Juve out of the ’23 -24 Champions League.

Superchampions

The ’23-24 is also the last with this formula. The following year, we move on to the cup with 36 teams and only one group. The details are being worked out. On one point, UEFA does not pose any problems: the two places per ranking will be canceled. The revolt of the “little ones” has not passed over in silence. It wasn’t a bad idea – for the value of the tournament – to bring in two big names, qualified at least in the Europa League or Conference, but not in the Champions League. No way. On another issue, however, Nyon has clear ideas: the group stage must include 8 matches and not 10, to avoid an impossible schedule. Finally, the draw criteria have been established: the 36 teams will be divided into 4 bands; each team will meet 2 rivals from each tier.
