Sparta acted quickly: ‘Can’t do anything for four weeks, but I’m still available’

Maurice Steijn is not afraid of reputation damage by starting earlier at Sparta. After the departure of Henk Fraser, the coach, who would already hold sway at Het Kasteel next season, was moved forward earlier.

In the last four games of this season, he has to save Sparta from relegation. The risk of reputational damage is therefore present, but Steijn certainly does not see it that way. “We have a program in which we are not without a chance at any match,” he tells the NOS . “I have a lot of faith in it, otherwise I wouldn’t have done it.”

The Hague trainer did not have to hesitate for long when he received a call from Rotterdam-West earlier than expected. “I can sit on the sidelines for four weeks, but I am still available. The time is very short and that means that we have a lot to do this week. In any case, I can see that there is good training and that the boys be fresh.”
