RFC Seraing has secured an extra season in our highest division against RWDM. After the 0-1 in the first leg, the home team had enough tonight with a 0-0 draw. At the Brussels tradition club, Igor De Camargo left a heroic role in his last professional match.
Seraing – RWDM in a nutshell:
- key moment: Around the hour, the departing De Camargo is offered a huge opportunity after a great action by Hazard. He cannot control the ball well, so Dietsch can intervene. The inhabitants of Brussels do not come any closer to the opening goal.
- Man of the match: At RWDM it wasn’t Kylian Hazard. The winger was a scourge to the home defence, but he was either seriously knocked down or his fellow mates didn’t finish well.
- Remarkable: For the first time since 1973, 3 Brussels clubs could once again be present in 1A, but Seraing put a stop to that. That is true in 2 games.
RWDM escapes red in spicy first half
In a first half with good intentions and many duels, there were opportunities on both sides. Hazard narrowly missed the best opportunity and Mikautadze was unable to finish on the other side after the visitors’ stumbling.
It was also very intense on the field at times. Hazard was knocked down twice and on the other side Nangis escaped red after a clean after-kick on Mikautadze.
At rest, both teams went with the glasses score on the board, Seraing still had an extended stay in 1A virtually.
The Camargo leaves it behind, sad scenes afterwards
After the break the pace was lower and the chances were scarce, but around the hour De Camargo had the opening goal at the foot. After a nice solo by Hazard, the Brazilian Belgian came face to face with Dietsch, but he let the ball shoot.
Moments later, the 38-year-old striker’s professional career was over. Vincent Euvrard pulled him aside for Obbi Oulare.
RWDM pumped the ball to the tree-long Oulare countless times, but the really great opportunities were not forthcoming. Seraing thus convinced a longer stay in 1A. Afterwards, the dolls also started dancing after the RWDM section opened and some hotheads confronted some Seraing supporters.
De Camargo: “Missed promotion doesn’t make my career any less beautiful”
Afterwards, Igor de Camargo gave his last analysis of a match in which he played: “It is very unfortunate about the result, we really hoped for more. This team deserves praise. We have come so far and it is not evident that we are here now.”
At the hour, De Camargo could have put RWDM ahead: “It’s a shame I can’t score there, that’s all I can say. We won’t be promoted and that’s all.”
“It is now over for me. It is a shame about the result, but that will not make my career any less beautiful. I am now going to take some rest and enjoy the holiday.”
- Vincent Euvrard (coach RWDM): “We played the match we were supposed to play tonight. It was a lot better than last week and I think we dominated. The ball has to fall well and it may not have been easy, but I can only be proud of this group .”
“The boys have done everything I asked of them. Everyone has given everything. We are just a little short in the reckoning and that is frustrating, but we can leave here with our heads held high.”
- Jean-Louis Garcia (Seraing coach): “Of course we are very relieved that we were able to save ourselves. I have the feeling that it is also deserved. Not only based on these 2 matches, but also in the competition we simply earned more.”
“In any case, we are happy. The goals have been achieved and that is crucial. I also want to thank Jordi Condom (Garcia’s predecessor), he also has a part in this. How can we have an easier season next season? We will stay a small club, it will never be easy.”
