Solidarity and look towards the future. The Italian Basketball Federation and the Municipality of Roseto degli Abruzzi open their doors to Ukrainian athletes using one of the most transversal disciplines in the world, 3 × 3 basketball.
Inclusion and respect are the values underlying the understanding found between the mayor of the “City of Roses” Mario Nugnes and the president of FIP Giovanni Petrucci, who also thanks to the collaboration of local entrepreneurs will host the 3 × 3 women’s national team in Roseto degli Abruzzi Ukraine in preparation for international activities in summer 2022.
On Tuesday 26 April at 11.30 in the Council Chamber of the Municipality of Roseto degli Abruzzi the Mayor Mario Nugnes will receive the institutional visit of the President of CONI Giovanni Malagò, accompanied by the FIP President Giovanni Petrucci. The occasion is the opening in Roseto degli Abruzzi of the first Federal Technical Center for women’s and men’s “3 × 3” activities.
The Mayor, together with Malagò and Petrucci, will welcome the 3 × 3 women’s national team of Ukraine, a guest of the Abruzzo city in a period in which carrying out activities in one’s own country is impossible due to the ongoing war.
Immediately after the meeting, the Mayor Nugnes and the Councilor for Tourism and Sport Lorena Mastrilli will accompany the Presidents Malagò and Petrucci on a visit to the Cittadella dello Sport, the historic 4 Palme Arena and the Bellavista outdoor arena. .
“Sport is inclusion and respect – said the president of Federbasket Giovanni Petrucci – and it is with these values in mind that we immediately worked to allow Ukrainian athletes and their staff to be able to carry out their activities here in Italy. An easy decision for us also in light of the terrible period the Ukrainian people are going through. The same spirit that inspired us in the decision to allow Ukrainian referee Boris Ryzhyk to direct our top league matches. I cannot fail to thank the mayor of Roseto Mario Nugnes for the closeness he has shown to our sport on many occasions and Daniele Cimorosi for the sensitivity and willingness to host the Ukrainian delegation at their facilities. A unique opportunity to inaugurate our first 3 × 3 ”Federal Technical Center.
