Roland-Garros: Nick Kyrgios announces his intention to replay the tournament in 2023

Clay is not his cup of tea. So much so that Nick Kyrgios will play this week in Houston his only tournament of the season on this surface. However, will he return one day to Roland-Garros? At first… yes. “This Houston tournament will be the first and last of my season on clay. But I am announcing it now, next year I will go to Paris to play Roland-Garros. I haven’t played it for four years (sic)”, revealed Kyrgios. The person concerned has in fact not been seen in the big picture on the Porte d’Auteuil side for … five years. His last participation dates back to the 2017 edition during which he lost in the second round against Kevin Anderson (5-7, 6-4, 6-1, 6-2). He never reached the second week on the Parisian ocher, reaching as far as in the 3rd round twice in 2015 and 2016, respectively beaten by Andy Murray and Richard Gasquet.

And why take such a decision now? Would he miss Roland? Nay! “My girlfriend just wants to see Paris. So I will take the opportunity to play Roland-Garros“, he hilariously blurted out.This year we have already decided to go home for a long time. The time spent in Australia will be crucial, because the next trip will last three months. When you come from Australia, you quickly get homesick (due to the distance from the United States and Europe, Editor’s note)”, he further explained.

After this Houston tournament, Kyrgios will therefore take a long break before making his comeback to lawn tennis from June on the side of Stuttgart (June 6-12). He should continue in Mallorca before playing Wimbledon, then flying off for the American summer tour on hard until the US Open. As for next year, if the Australian still spins the perfect love, he should therefore see Paris again.
