This Wednesday, the Grand Slam Tournaments Committee (Australian Open, Roland-Garros, Wimbledon, US Open) announced “the joint decision to play a 10-point tie-break at all Grand Slams, when the score reaches six games anywhere in the last set”.
In its press release, the Committee explains that this choice is the result of a desire for greater consistency in the rules of the game during Grand Slam tournaments, “in order to improve the experience of players and fans”. This decision was made after a “Extensive consultation with WTA, ATP and ITF referees. »
It will apply from the qualifications of the tournaments concerned, in singles as in doubles, for men as for women, in wheelchair events and for juniors in singles. The next Roland-Garros tournament (May 22-June 5) will be the first competition affected by this rule change.
“At the Australian Open, French Open and US Open, the 10-point tiebreak will replace the final set for mixed doubles, junior doubles and wheelchair doubles. At Wimbledon, the format will remain the same as for the other events.the statement said.
