Rafael Nadal will make a good return to the Madrid tournament before Roland-Garros

It was the trend of the last few days and he himself confirmed the good news on Tuesday: Rafael Nadal will make his return to competition next week. The Mallorcan will thus play the Masters 1000 in Madrid (May 1-8), almost a month and a half after the Indian Wells final on March 20. Forced to postpone his spring start on clay because of a cracked rib, he has resumed high-intensity training sessions in recent days without apparent problem.

Although I will be fair in terms of preparation and it will be difficult, I really want to play, and there are few opportunities to play at home. I will try to do it in the best possible way. See you in Madrid“, thus indicated Rafael Nadal in a tweet. Sacred five times in Madrid (including four times since the tournament is played on clay in the Caja Magica), the world number 4 has not won there for five years. Two preparation tournaments before Roland

It is probably a choice guided by the heart therefore – the Madrid public will be won over to the cause of the Mallorcan – but also by an imperative: to play as many matches as possible before landing at Roland-Garros. The countdown is thus launched for the ogre of ocher who should only be able to play one other preparation tournament the following week in Rome (8-15 May) of which he is also defending champion .

He should thus reserve the last days before the Parisian Major (May 22-June 5) to refine the final adjustments of his rise in training.
