The sports title that is coming to the console of the big N is about a successor to the mythical Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort that went on sale on Wii, so you can partly get an idea of what we will find in this new installment of the series that will arrive this month.
Even so, in recent days we have had the opportunity to test it for a few hours, so we are going to tell you what we think of its different mini-games and also if it is really worth putting it in your sights.
Spocco Square, the ideal square for sports lovers
For this trial version, the content was limited to testing a little bit of the different sports that will be enabled from day one, since we must not forget that later the selection will be expanded with golf through a free update. Until then, we can opt for the volleyball, badminton, bowling, soccer, chambara and tennis.
The proposal of each of them will be different from that of the others, just as the number of players that can be brought together on the same screen to participate in these disciplines will also vary. Although they are all designed so that one can play alone, there will be some sports for a maximum of two people and others with a capacity for four players simultaneously.
What everyone will agree on is the fact that will be scattered around Spocco Square, a gigantic square with facilities for all sports fans and from which it will be very easy to access them. By choosing them we can indicate how many players are going to participate, just as each one can select their own character, either from one that comes designed by default or edit their own from a wide variety of options.
In this test version we were not able to delve too deeply into this aspect, but what we do know is that for the final version, countless items can be unlocked to modify the appearance of the characters, so that each one can give it their touch. staff. And in the event that none of all this convinces you, you can even use each one’s own Mii.
Guaranteed entertainment with its six sports
The good thing that the six sports are different from each other is that each one can choose the proposal with which they prefer to hang out. In addition, the games will not last especially long, so you can easily jump from one to another after a few minutes. At least with this first contact I have to say that I have had fun with all six, with some more than others, yes, although they have been very entertaining along with the odd bite.
It must also be recognized that three of them are not new as such and were already present in the previous ones. Wii Sports, while the remaining three debut for the first time in the franchise. In any case, I am going to tell you what I thought of each one individually:
Volleyball
In volleyball four people can play and in this case the screen is divided into the same number of players. More than anything because the camera will point well at each character in question so that the direction of the ball can be seen well so that it is easier, remove, receive, place and finish. However, in the case of being less, it will be artificial intelligence that will replace the rest of the athletes.
Depending on whether you move the Joy-Con at the right time, the blow will be stronger or weaker, in the same way that you will have to be attentive to the actions of the opponents to block at the right moment to make a perfect counterattack. On the other hand, we will only have to pay attention to these actions, since the characters will move automatically, something that is undoubtedly appreciated if we only worry about moving our arms.
Badminton
Badminton matches will always be one on one and we will have to imagine that the Joy-Con is a racket to hit the shuttlecock with all our might. The truth is that movements are detected perfectly when it comes to execute powerful spikes, dropshots or even apply effects. In turn, we can choose various levels of difficulty for our opponent and I can assure you that it is a real challenge to win at the highest.

Personally, it is the sport that I spent the most time on Wii and its return has been a joy. As in the original, you will have to make the entire arm movement, from back to frontto throw the ball to try to knock down all the pins possible with one throw, although you can also turn your wrist or the character itself to give it an effect.
Something that has also seemed to me a great point in its favor is that we will not have to wait for one to play to execute our respective launches, since each one will have its own track so that up to four players, with their local multiplayer, can demonstrate who are the best at the same time.
Soccer
Another of the new sports and the best additions to the game. There will be eight characters on the field at the same time, but in local multiplayer only two people will be able to see each other in these soccer matches in which we will have to hit a gigantic ball to introduce it into the rival team’s goal.
Of course is the sport that best makes use of all the functions of the Joy-Conbecause with its sticks and buttons we will move, jump and run, but shaking it will serve to kick or head the ball, to make it even more interactive.
And beyond these normal games we can even play penalty shootouts, in case we simply want to practice our shot, either with the controller or by placing it on our leg with the tape that comes in the physical edition of the game, which is exactly the same as use Ring Fit Adventure.
Chambara
The game of swords Wii Sports Resort has returned with this new version in which we will have to deliver sword blows to attack or block the impacts of our opponent until one of the two falls off the platform. Depending on the command position of each one, we will be able to hit him or remain stunned if he blocks our attack correctly.
However, this seemed to me the least intuitive of all the sports because sometimes one of the two managed to hit the opponent even if he had the sword in the same place as the trajectory. Even so, to make it more varied, you can choose between three different modes by fighting with a normal sword, another with energy that can be charged and even using two swords at the same time with two Joy-Con.
Tennis
finally tennis will only allow doubles matches to be played, which is a bit strange for not offering the option to play individual matches. In any case, the Joy-Con will have to be grabbed like a racket and perform the same gestures as if we had a real one in our hands, because any movement will be perfectly reflected on the screen when executing shots with effects, volleys, etc.
In short, Nintendo Switch Sports It is one of those ideal games to enjoy with any of our family and friends, because in none of these sports is it absolutely necessary to have great skill at the controls. Likewise, we will have to wait for the final version to discover what else it will offer us, but if you are looking for a title that can become an alternative to Mario Party with those afternoons full of fun, this could be a good candidate.
