Polar Bears lose first playoff game at free throw line

Second division basketball team Eisbären Bremerhaven started the playoffs of the second basketball league with a 78:82 defeat after extra time.


Tübingen leads 1-0 in the series

The Tigers Tübingen lead 1-0 in the “Best of five” series. Interim coach Allen Ray Smith’s team lost the game in Tübingen at the free-throw line, missing 14 tries. The guests’ best throwers were Kevin Yebo and Carrington Love with 15 points each.

Eight free throws awarded

Both teams played strong defense in the north-south duel, but had problems on offense. This was especially true for the polar bears, who threw their first field goal after just under four minutes. Even more annoying was that the guests missed eight free throws in the first quarter.

First tour of the polar bears

Nevertheless, the polar bears were able to take the lead for the first time in the second quarter (22:19, 12th minute). But the people of Tübingen regained the lead with a 6-0 run and were still ahead at half-time.

Fought back after falling behind

After the break, the polar bears fell eight points behind (44:52, 27th minute), but fought back into the game. A dramatic crunch time developed.

Kivimäki scores for Tübingen to equalize

The Tübingen team had the happier hand there. With 3.5 seconds remaining, Aatu Kivimäki scored a three point to equalize for the Tigers 73:73. There was overtime.

Second game on Easter Sunday

In overtime, the Tübingen team regained the lead and never gave it up. On Easter Sunday there will be a second duel with the Tigers, this time in Bremerhaven (6 p.m., Stadthalle).
