The Catalan has been the protagonist of the latest installment of ‘La Caja de Dazn’ where he has talked about some key moments of his career as a MotoGP rider.

Since his arrival at the MotoGP World Championship, Pol Espargaró He has had to deal with great moments like his title as Moto2 World Champion in 2013 but also with some complicated ones. Currently, the Catalan is experiencing one of his best moments both on a sporting and personal level, a Repsol Honda rider, with a family that supports him and competing in the best motorcycle championship in the world, without a doubt, a dream come true. He sharing the box with Marc Marquez, who has been his great rival since the beginning and with whom he now shares a good relationship. And fighting hand in hand with his brother from different positions.

His past in badminton. «When I changed schools there was a variable sports credit and I signed up. Since I’m choppy and competitive (laughs ne) I also wanted to compete. I competed in the Catalan championship in pairs and I was quite good at it. At that time we won that test of the Catalan championship, I think I was second in doubles…«.

The characteristics of Pol Espargaró. «Yes, I’m very clueless, I don’t know if it’s because I have too many things on my mind or wanting to do too many things and cover more than I can. Maybe that’s why I’m pretty clueless. Punctual? It’s hard for me to be punctual. The older I get, the more punctual I am. And easy for people? I try to be because I know that my work is difficult for me but for them to be with me too because I don’t stop all day and they have to put up with me through thick and thin. Especially in the bad. So, I try to make a little team«.

The most personal Pol Espargaró

Are you angry with yours? «I think there has to be everything, there have to be happy moments where we all enjoy and the relationship must always be above, we have to be a pineapple. But I think that the more confident you are and the more pineapple you are, the more you can demand and the more they can demand of you. And that they tell you when things are not, which is what I like. It is evident that when things are not going well I am the first to demand, but I am also the first to listen when they demand of me«.

The anecdote of the cactus with his brother. «This is one of the ones he made for me. We had some cacti outside the house, I was four or five years old, Aleix was two years older than me and he was a bastard. He told me: ‘hug the cactus, you’ll see how much fun it will give you’, innocent of me I went to hug the cactus and you can imagine, I went to the hospital because the desire to hug the cactus was few«.

His relationship with Aleix Espargaró. «Well, I get along very well. We have our pluses and minuses, that’s why I don’t like to compete against him. He has once said that he does like him but in the end the relationship between brothers is very nice but the rivalry on the track is enormous. In addition, we are now at a level where we compete against each other, so that generates competitiveness and a level that is difficult to manage. Then we come home to the kids and forget everything but it’s not easy«.

Living a dream

About being in the Repsol Honda Team, the best team in the world? «Yes, definitely. Not only because of the history they have, obviously the best history. It is the best team in history, the factory with the most titles. But also you wear these colors and if you don’t win, if you’re not at the top you let yourself down. Despite the fact that things are not in place, it is obviously a dream for me, for all the riders and whoever says otherwise is lying, to be here«.

The figure of Alberto Puig. «One of those people who, if he is with you, is with you to the fullest. She is not going to let anyone or anything hurt you. If she can get between you and a bullet, she’s going to get in the way and stop that bullet from hurting you so he can take on that responsibility. It is necessary to have an Alberto in the team, we have seen it in Indonesia. After Marc’s crash and the problems we had with Michelin, he has put himself before all the problems, he has been the leading voice within the team and has complained. I am convinced that 99% of the teams would have been much more politically correct and would not have defended their drivers as much. It is to be thankful”.

Your current moment. I feel like a child, I feel perfect, in the best moment of my sports career, but now it is more difficult to recover from injuries than when I was 18-20 years old and it is beginning to be a very physically demanding sport, due to the injuries that I have already accumulated . We see athletes, for example in soccer, who are lengthening their sports careers or Valentino (Rossi), who at 40 years old was still competitive. Valentino is unique, I don’t want to compare myself with him, but I would like to extend my sports career for 5 more years at a high level”.
