Pittsburgh Penguins President and CEO resign – Hockey – Sportacentrs.com

Morhaus has decided to resign as president and CEO of the Penguins after 16 years in the organization. “I’m lucky I’ve never felt at work in those 16 years,” Morhaus said. “There has always been a sense of collaboration within the organization – with players, coaches, staff and also Pittsburgh fans.”

Morhaus joined the team in 2004 as a consultant for the new arena project, but was appointed team president in 2007 and as chief executive officer.

While Morhaus was the unit’s executive director, the Penguins won the Stanley Cup three times, reaching the final four times and the conference final five times. Under his leadership, the Pittsburgh team’s games have been sold out for more than 14 seasons, surpassing previous television ratings.

“Penguins”, also represented by Latvian hockey player Teodors Blugers, has one game left in the regular championship against Elvis Merzlikkin’s Columbus “Blue Jackets”. The Pittsburgh team took seventh place in the Eastern Conference with 101 points in 81 games and has secured a place in the playoffs.
