New York – NBA boss Adam Silver has criticized the many absences of basketball stars during the season in the North American professional league.

It is a trend that top professionals “not fully” participate in games, said the 59-year-old in New York. In normal game years in the NBA, 82 games are played in the regular season alone. Only then do the playoffs begin, in which the championship is at stake. There have recently been deviations due to the pandemic.

“I’m not standing here saying I have a great solution,” Silver said. Injuries are also part of the problem, the commissioner added. Two years ago, the NBA introduced a so-called playin tournament to increase the tension between regular season and playoffs with a mini-qualification. Silver explicitly does not want to rule out that the number of games could be reduced in the next few years.
